Title: A New Approach for Testing Power Transformers
Abstract: Power transformers are the largest, most expensive, and highly critical components of most utility substations. In order to ensure a long, useful service life, it is critical that a power transformer and its ancillary components are tested regularly for incipient fault modes.
We will provide an overview of our new dedicated power transformer test system, which can perform the following electrical diagnostic tests:
- Turns-Ratio (TTR)
- Leakage Reactance (Short-Circuit Impedance)
- DC Winding Resistance
- Core Demagnetization
The new test system significantly reduces the number of test connections and lead changes required to perform the tests, which minimizes test time, improves ease-of-use, and improves safety, relative to conventional test equipment.
Title: Comprehensive Commissioning – to Optimize Performance of Power Systems
Abstract: PHighlights the opportunity for optimizing energy efficiency through precision commissioning and introduces some state-of-the art tools for execution. The audience will gain practical takeaways such as references and checklists to improve operations as well as a guide for commissioning processes.
The topic of precision commissioning and some emerging test requirements will also be There is significant progress in the past year in developing a common commissioning process by at least five standards making organizations. These guideline standards are being developed for applications including Solar PV, Substations, and Energy Storage. This is a critical issue now because Utility-Scale Projects have multiple stakeholders involved in launching projects that can benefit from clarity on roles and responsibilities at each phase of a project The proposed process outlined in this presentation is based on common industry commissioning practices and benchmarking utility programs. The commissioning process will be described in general, then key items and checklists will be described at each phase of the project.
We will talk about industry needs to improve commissioning processes and outline the precision commissioning process for critical facilities.
Some common key steps that will be discussed in detail include:
- The increasing importance of commissioning
- Commissioning Agent Perspective
- Project Execution Perspective
- Commonalities with other Industries
- Some Macro Trends...
- Commissioning Process
- Planning a commissioning Project
- Executing a commissioning plan
- Different approaches to commissioning
- Best practices in commissioning -
- Industry Needs
- Precision Commissioning

Title: The Importance of Calibration
Abstract: There is a need to service and maintain the calibration of equipment throughout its lifetime for reliable and accurate measurements. The goal of calibration is to reduce any measurement ambiguity by guaranteeing the accuracy of test equipment.
Calibration of your test equipment is important for two reasons:
- To check the accuracy of the instrument and determine the traceability of the measurement.
- When done correctly, calibration also includes repair of the device if necessary

Title: Vacuum Breaker Testing - Testing Options and the Benefit of Each
Abstract: This presentation will cover how vacuum breakers have changed from each generation along with more advanced testing options that can be beneficial when used accordingly - from a simple pass/fail to a collection of data. Which option is the best choice for the job?
Title: Serving the Testing Contractor
Abstract: When was the last time that you actually felt like a customer; much less received exceptional service? We live in a world of almost unlimited information and news that's available in real time.
We'll discuss how the technology in our field is improving at an almost exponential rate, and although we may have completed the "task" have we really provided our "customer" the highest level of "service"? This discussion will go through a typical "job" in our field and discuss how we can, (or should!) work toward not only providing the customer with the required scope, but looking for ways to exceed the customers' expectations.

Title: Safety First: New Technology and Advancements for Safer Off-line Electrical Testing
Abstract: As any testing crew knows, off-line electrical testing can be a dangerous job. In this presentation we'll take a look at new technological advancements that can help reduce some of the risks associated with this type of testing. Dual high-voltage leads, eyehooks on leads, an emergency stop button, and test enable/safety switches are just some of the advancements Doble is making to help reduce risks in a variety of ways - including reducing the number of ladder trips per job.
